The KMH podcast

Put your headphones in. Take a breath.

Two short series from the clinic: guided meditations for when your mind will not settle, and straight talk with Linda about the patterns that keep us stuck.

  • Just Breathe.Guided imagery, about 10 minutes each. Voiced by Piper Rasmussen.
  • Let's Talk!Linda Kelly on one idea that changes how you see yourself.

Before you press play. The meditations ask you to close your eyes, so listen somewhere you can safely do that, never while driving. If something brings up more than you expected, stop, open your eyes, and come back when you are ready.

    Fantasy

A guided imagery exercise for meeting a fantasy safely, inside your imagination.

Everyone has fantasies. They take us away from where we are and let us visit a place or an experience that exists only in the mind. Some are noble. Some we would never say out loud.

All of them come from somewhere inside us, and they have reasons for being there. A fantasy you refuse to look at still works on your life quietly. Acknowledging it lets you shape it, tame it, and put it in perspective, or act on some small, good part of it.

In this meditation you live out a fantasy of your choosing, within the safety of your imagination. Whatever comes up, it stays there. It is not part of your real world, and it never has to be.

    Beach tides

Notice your own patterns for handling crisis and change, in the ebb and flow of the tide.

Living is full of repetition. Daily routines make life smoother and more predictable, and on a larger scale, each of us has a personal style for meeting a crisis or a big decision.

After major change we fall back into routine to gather ourselves, often in a characteristic way. We even resist change in a repetitive way.

This exercise helps you become aware of those patterns, so you can expand them, change them, or let them go.

    Perfectionism, with Linda Kelly

Where high standards end and perfectionism begins, and how to change it.

Most of us would call high standards a good thing. Striving for excellence can reflect a strong work ethic and strength of character, and it can push you to your best.

Perfectionism is different. It sets standards so high they cannot be met, or only met with great difficulty, and treats anything short of perfect as a catastrophe.

Linda unpacks the trait behind problems from procrastination to depression, and what you can do to loosen its grip.
